Currently SOPW provides monthly support for approximately 100 Sikh political prisoners in India. This monetary support provides for basic amenities such as food.
We regularly communicate (via letters) with the prisoners to ensure their well being, keep updated with developments in their legal cases, to be notified of any urgent needs of their families, and to confirm that they are receiving their monthly payments.
Many of the Sikh political prisoners have been imprisoned in dire conditions for many years, without any support from anyone. Hundreds of miles away from home, these proud Singhs can’t share their pain with their families for fear of further burdening their families already living in difficulty. We urge all Sikhs to at least write one letter to a prisoner, to share their pains and give them a source of moral support.
The following are a selection of letters, translated from Punjabi to share their plight with the Sangat.
Letter from Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara
Letter from Bhai Balvinder Singh
Letter from Bhai Gurbhej Singh
Letter from Bhai Parminder Singh
