SOPW Leicester Nagar Kirtan

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa ||

Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh ||

Date: Sunday 27th May 2012
Venue: Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurudwara (Sikh Temple), Leicester.

A special meeting was held where the hosting Guru Ghar (Guru’s Home) and three other Gurudwaras held a public meeting for the purpose of deciding which charities to allocate all monies raised at the Leicester Nagar Kirtan. It was decided that all the Gurudwaras were going to make a joint and unanimous decision.

Each charity was invited to give a 10-minute presentation to the Sangat (Congregation) of their aims and objectives, historic charitable projects, modus operandi, and their future plans. The following charities presented:

1)     The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association

2)     Stroke Association

3)     Sikh Organisation for Prisoner Welfare (SOPW)

With Waheguru’s (God’s) grace the Sangat was very impressed and gave many blessings to the work SOPW tirelessly carries out in very difficult circumstances and awarded SOPW £800.

After the presentations a special 1-2-1 meeting was convened by the Chairmen of each of the Gurudwaras where an open discussion was held on the importance of protecting all political prisoners, aiding their families, preserving Sikh history and lobbying the authorities for the fair and equal rights of all.

The Chairmen pledged that they will in future fundraise on behalf of SOPW and political prisoners.

We at SOPW wish to deeply thank everyone for their continued support and blessings – we cannot do ANYTHING without the strength and contributions of everyone.
